HERIAN HUSHES UP 1831 MERTHYR RISING?

.
HERIAN goes and produces an excellent brochure on Southern Industrial History but somehow manages to forget to put in an illustration or account of the greatest of all Welsh Rebellions, that of the 1831 Merthyr Rising. Now how on earth did they manage that but at same time note included in both illustration and text are; Rebecca Riots, Ammanford Miners Strike 1925 and Chartist Newport Rising 1839. Also left out are the Scotch Cattle Troubles in Gwent 1831 - 1839, Tonypandy Riots 1910 and Llanelli Riots 1911. I could think up a few more significant events to have include but lets leave it at the four I have mentioned, I hope when next publishing this otherwise excellent brochure these four at least will be added. That will all the more be more certain, if you contact them and complain, not least in respect to fact that 2010 and 2011 will mark anniversaries of Tonypandy 1910 and Llanelli 1911.
.
.
The Good news is that Merthyr Tudful has seen set up a number of excellent history interpretation panels throughout the town including one at Plas 3 Mehefin 1831. This is where a few years back I placed a Red Flag and loaf of Bread on a pole
to initiate my campaign to so name this historic place where on 3 June 1831 Soldiers stationed at the Castle Inn massacred 28 People.
.
I am also campaigning for a worthy group sculpture be set up at this site to record this tragic event in the history of the Town, after all Newport has a number of sculptures regards the 1839 Rising. So c'mon Merthyr lets follow in Newports footsteps, and while we are waiting for that to get underway could not a mural be painted on that rather scruffy wall. Why not make that a youth or community service project, I am sure any number of town business would sponsor?
.
You can support my campaign by writing to the town council, please do so asap, and do remember lay floral tributes to memory of the massacred at this site on 3 Mehefin annually, or on Saturday following this date. A date and site ideal for Remembrance Ceremonies or Political Commemorations, if so wished. Now see below fotos >

In 1831 Lewis Lewis led an attack on the Court of Requests, today it is a public house to be found at 9 Dynefor Place not too far from the Town center.

LAND & LIBERTY: DEFEND THE LAND AGAINST ALL EXPLOITERS inc Windmill Plantation Profiteers.

.
TIME TO RAISE UP THE 'RED PITCHFORK' BANNER OF POPULAR PROTEST, this time in defence of our land against Cheque Book Conquest of Cymru. Who is to own Wales? the Land Lords of old or the new would be the Lords of our Land, big business profiteers? We have had the Anglo - Norman Medieval Robber Barons and later wealthy Anglo - Welsh Land Enclosers. We have had our land taken for Forestry's and British Army Training Grounds, and of course not least reservoirs. Now they want our land for Windmill Plantations, time we stopped this land grabbing. Support Rally against the Windmilling of Wales at Hyddgen on 20 June 2009 at 12 noon. SEE FURTHER INFO BELOW:

TOLPUDDLE MARTYRS COMMEMORATIONS: But What About Merthyr 1831 Commemoration On Similar Scale?

http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=0h&oq=&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADBS_enGB317GB206&q=tolpuddle+martyrs+commemoration

.

Question Begs To Be Asked, why is it the Left in England are so up for commemorating the Tolpuddle Martyrs in such a big way. But in Wales we all but forget the 28 plus Working Class Martyrs of the 3 June Massacre outside the Castle Inn during the Red Week 1831 Insurrection? No plaque, no mural and no commemoration, why?
.
See earlier Posts for further information on radical workers leader Lewis Lewis and the Hirwaun/Merthyr 1831 'Red Week' Insurrection. Industrial Heritage body 'HERIAN' goes a bundle on the Chartists but forgets Insurrection 1831, I wonder why that is? Why don't you ask them!

SPANISH CIVIL WAR WELSH INTERNATIONAL BRIGADE VOLUNTEERS MEMORIAL CATHAYS PARK CARDIFF.

.
Working in London, in catering as a Kitchen Porter, I worked with people from all over the World. Most were youngsters lucky enough to be enjoying the fruits of their grand and great grand parents struggles for social and eonomic justice. Few realised or really cared about such things, after all this is the age of the MTV and McDonald's Kids Birthday Party generations. However, most were OK! who can deny them their youth but I must say that I found working with young people of the 'Third World' more interesting.
.
Unfortunately most modern youth are all well down the road of consumerism, but I was never so shocked as to just how far some do not have respect for past struggles, as when I started up a conversation with a young Spanish lad. I had brought up the Spanish Civil war, and was about to make him aware of the Welsh contribution when he quickly retorted...''That's my parents problem, not mine!''...and walked off, totally disinterested in any conversation about the Spanish Civil War. Hopefully, that was just one isolated sad example of completed Youthful Indifference and selfishness really, but somehow I think it sadly might be a majority view?
.
But then there was a period of my early teenage years when I might have appeared to be the same as that 'stroppy' young Spaniard who so obviously implied that the past was the past and he only cared for the future. Whatever, it got me thinking, what's it all about at the end of the day? Pretty sad for all those who give their lives for noble causes as for Spanish Democracy, I hope this does not make anyone feel despondent and despairing for the future of any worthy struggles!
