Working in London, in catering as a Kitchen Porter, I worked with people from all over the World. Most were youngsters lucky enough to be enjoying the fruits of their grand and great grand parents struggles for social and eonomic justice. Few realised or really cared about such things, after all this is the age of the MTV and McDonald's Kids Birthday Party generations. However, most were OK! who can deny them their youth but I must say that I found working with young people of the 'Third World' more interesting.

t how far some do not have respect for past struggles, as when I started up a conversation with a young Spanish lad. I had brought up the Spanish Civil war, and was about to make him aware of the Welsh contribution when he quickly retorted...''That's my parents problem, not mine!''...and walked off, totally disinterested in any conversation about the Spanish Civil War. Hopefully, that was just one isolated sad example of completed Youthful Indifference and selfishness really, but somehow I think it sadly might be a majority view?

But then there was a period of my early teenage years when I might have appeared to be the same as that 'stroppy' young Spaniard who so obviously implied that the past was the past and he only cared for the future. Whatever, it got me thinking, what's it all about at the end of the day? Pretty sad for all those who give their lives for noble causes as for Spanish Democracy, I hope this does not make anyone feel despondent and despairing for the future of any worthy struggles!
