Socialism or Nationalism?
Welsh Remembancer and Red Remembrance, same the politics all so 'Ambiguous' which is why I stay for most part in my history corner and on the fringe activism otherwise possibly frequenting Welsh Political circles might depress me too much. Certainly the 'Cilmeri Crowd' would, they do not appear to have or moved anywhere politically in 50 years whilst BC is more or less where the Patriotic Front was in the 'Sixties' only they have no Guts and no Gumption and are the most awful of 'Opportunists'. So representing what 'Alternative Nationalism' as become and more so than ever within the BC Pathetic Fringe as Plaid Cymru 'Devolution Dilettantes and their Camp Followers but worse of all as Cymdeithas Cyfamod dangerous examples of 'Crach Fodder Patriotism' whilst myself these days am just as likly to say neither 'Country or Crachach'.
However, giving what I came from, my nationalist political roots that is a tough call to make and decision as to a Political home just as hard as whilst Crach Fodder Camp Following is a no! no! I am neither struck by what I describe as the 'Anglo - Cambro' left as represented by Rhydian and Tim though perhaps closer to they than the likes of certain 'Old Comrades' and certainly a grest distance away from BC the 'New Ultra Nationalist Boys on the Block', though how long they will last as the latest 'Patriotic Fringe' fad and 'kilited fashion' is hard to tell. Afterall could be a case of Port Talbot yesterday, Llanelli today and Merthyr tommorrow unless the Radical Wales/Welsh Left gets it's act together for the sake of a Merthyr Red Commune Commemoration 2012 and as a Red Republican Anti - Jubilee Festival first week of June 2012 as is also Jubilee Week:

6 Sep 2011 – GALWAD GLYNDŴR. This blog is meant to unite all that believe in the just cause of Owain Glyndŵr, Owain IV, our past, present and future ..Commenting herein some haste, half way to North Wales as later this morning will be on my to Gwyned to see family and hopefully get to Corwen on Saturday, yes for a Rali Glyndwr. These days I cannot aford just forking out to attend events alone there has to be other reasons as seeing family and freinds or photo field work research, anyway:
Perhaps years ago I would have been totally aboard with Clem and those describing themselves as 'Patriots' whom participated in the Llanelli parade but not so today for reasons are perhaps not made totally clear in my blogs as ambiguous as my political beliefs are these days still. However, I am to the left and regard myself more a 'Socialist' than a 'Nationalist' Politically.
Particulary not of the BC kind which does represent as far as I am concerned the 'Pathetic Fringe' end of an 'Alternative Nationalism' which over the years has produced a number of representations of anotherwise 'Patriotic Fringe' of Plaid Cymru/Cymdeithas yr Iaith form of 'Cultural Nationalism'. Here Rhydian gets so much wrong, the traditions of this 'Alternative Nationalism' springs from more the Irish Republicanism of 1916 on to the present than any EuropeanTradition. In this BC is as stuck as much as Cayo and Coslet also I was in the 'Sixties' whilst any 'European Nationalist' tradition was miniscule and intellectual, more Catholic than Fascist. Such remained within a small circle of Welsh 'Catholic' Nationalists who by the 'Sixties' were but of small but still some little influence on the coming into existence of an 'Alternative Nationalism'. I am talking here of R.O.F. Wynn, Henry Edwards and my own Father in Law O.T.L. Hughes et al. They came within a sympathy for Cayo Evans and the FWA via Cayo and his 'Ireland 1916' romanticism with a nod to Polish and Spanish 'Ultra Nationalism.
Apart from Cayo and Toni Lewis also young myself influenced self and a few other nationalists, thoug I was sympathetic to the Nationalism of French Canada as well as 'Black Power'. None of my contemporaries were much influenced by any real political nationalist tradition, be it European or otherwise. The 'Sixities' for Plaid Cymru became a 'Nationalism' that following the growing grip of Gwynfor Evans with his rural non - conformist following along with Saunders Lewis Speech became largelly a 'Cultural Nationlist' movement and as remained so to this day.
Despite since the end of the Gwynfor Evans era and Plaid Cymru posing as a 'Progressive Democratic Left' as often pushed by a tiny but influential paciifist left mainly out of the South with roots back more to Phil Williams and Emrys Roberts than even the Radical Republicanism of Cliff Bere and Pedr Lewis which became of the Patriotic Fringe whilst the 'Pacifist Fringe' as remained at core of Plaid as today represented by those much similar to what I call the 'Anglo - Cambro Left' as Rhydian and Tim represent. This grouping one identifies as having more concerns about Greenham Common, Faslane and other other issues a Plaid Left is at one with, say Radical Wales for example. This Plaid Left I would say is more likly not to have sympathy with a real 'Nationalist or Republican Welsh Left as for example Cymru Goch or Welsh Socialist Republican Movement. Their 'Republicanism' today can be seen to identify more with 'British Republicanism' than any Irish or 'Welsh Republicaism, only in area of 'Pacifism and the 'Language' issue do they appear to be particularly 'Welsh'.
To all extent and purpose they too possibly represent a rural cultural nationalism in roots perhaps but in present day reality. I would think that the Labour Party of Keir Hardie and Niclas y Glais would have entirely suited them as well, I guess myself today. What unites all these 'Nationalisms' in and around Plaid Cymru inc that which has bedevilled 'Alternative Nationalism' is 'Cultural Nationalism' and the 'Politics of Language' from Tryweryn to present day issue of 'Afordable Housing' and campaign to sustain S4C. All such are at exclusion of the 'English Speaking' Welsh and recent Plaid Cymru Conference shows such 'Cultural Nationalism' is still the main area of concern and not the fact that Windmill Master Robber Barons are rippiing off our Country. Though in this area the 'Anglo - Cambro' left is more likly to be concerned more with Palestine than Powys and Peoples struggle there and else where in rural communities engaged in campaigns against Windmills of Mass Destruction.
This 'Cultural Nationalism' I have no time for, never have and am even less sympathetic today as I see it for what it has become, not least politically Plaid Cymru still dominated by pura Wallia patriots (Ieuan, Dafydd, Ffred and Elin et al) be as Tim declares 'Plaid Crachach' and still in partnership with Plant Crachachach (CyIG). Unfortunatly, 'Alternative Nationalism' is not free of such 'Cultural Nationalist' influnces as seen in it's most radical expression 'Cymdeithas Cyfamod' and now increasingly in Balchder Cymru which appears these days to be jumping on the 'Afordable Housing' band waggon and so flirts with Plant Crachach via support for sustaining the unsustainable S4C, Interestingly BC Mk II via Russel G. Morris also appears to be not just flirting with Plaid Cymru but are more working towards 'Entyrism' that remain just in the 'Patriotic Fringe'. Very interesting but just adds to my personal oppinion that BC is more the 'Pathetic Fringe' than the 'Patriotic Front' that was my 'sixties solution' to what Welsh Nationalism needed to be.
Today, however I have moved away from this and his why I would no more feel politically content and happy with 'Cultural Nationalism'. 'Alternative Nationalism' and certainly not what ever BC may come in time to represent with now 'Racist Accusations' and FWA banners in it's wake, a matter still needing much further clarification as it could all be down to WECTU 'Agents Provocutuers?'.
